Pastured Poultry for Thriving Families
Healthy Soil = Nutrient Rich Plants = Healthy Animals = Thriving Families
We have truly free-ranging chickens that we raise in mobile chicken tractors (to protect them from predators) that we move every day so that our chickens are outdoors eating fresh grasses and grubs every day. In addition to what our meat chickens forage naturally, we feed them the very best, no GMO, soy-free, corn-free, pesticide free food. Bottom line, we raise happy healthy chickens that have a great life and provide us humans with happy, healthy meat to eat.
Free-Range, Pastured Poultry is Healthier
Our Free-range chicken has a higher protein content than commercially raised chickens. Beyond this, commercial chicken has also been linked to imbalanced hormones and increased cholesterol. Since what your chicken eats affects the health and quality of the meat you eat, choosing poultry that was raised on a chemical and drug-free diet is crucial.
According to a study conducted by the American Pastured Poultry Producers Association (APPPA) in 2013, pastured-raised poultry has an omega 6:3 ratio of 3:1 compared to 11:1 for commercially raised poultry

Free-Range, Pastured Poultry is Tastier
It’s true! Our free-ranging chickens are happier, healthier chickens, so they produce tastier meat. Some believe this is due to lower cortisol levels, which can toughen up meat, or to increased exercise that better develops their muscles, creating a juicier texture. Of course, poultry that is raised on a higher-quality clean diet is also bound to taste better.
Free-Range, Pastured Poultry is More Humane
How animals are treated matters. Our chicken is not subjected to dangerous or uncomfortable living conditions. Everything dies sooner or later. If you have ever seen or raised a meat chicken, you will know that they have not been bred to live long lives. We feel strongly that it is our job to provide our chickens with the very happiest, healthiest lives possible. When it comes to processing time, we use the 100% humane practices so our chickens are never stressed or destressed.
Our Chickens Eat Only the Best
In addition to all the bugs, grubs, grasses and worms they can find, our chickens are fed corn-free and soy-free Kaniksu free-range, egg-layer feed. In addition to having constant access to their special feed, we also soak a portion of their feed so our chickens get to enjoy sprouted grains every day. We go to the extra effort to soak our feed because sprouted feed is more bio available, providing more vitamins and nutrients at the same time it is more digestible.
Named after the local mountain range in northern Idaho, Kaniksu feed is the freshest, highest quality feed we could find. Yes, we like it better than Bar Ale and Modesto Mills. Although it is not labeled as organic (certification is expensive and time consuming), the folks at Kaniksu Feeds follow all organic practices and the feed is certified and tested free of Glyphosate and other herbicides.
What we notice is that our feed is noticeably fresher and sweeter smelling than the other brands available locally. Best yet, it is better digested by our chickens as evidenced by the lack of poop odor among other things we won’t mention like detailed poop analysis…
